New Mom and Dad frequently asked questions:

Do I contact you when I go into labor? All you need to do is follow your obstetrician’s directions and go to the pre-arranged hospital. In labor and delivery they will ask you the name of your Pediatrician. Once you inform them, we will be contacted and will come see the baby within the first 24 hours.

Do you perform circumcisions? Yes, circumcisions are performed at both office locations. We do not perform circumcisions at the hospital. They are scheduled on an out patient basis within the first two weeks of birth. We do a penile nerve block for anesthetic and use a Gomco clamp as our preferred method for the procedure.

Do you advocate breastfeeding? Certainly, we practice by using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended guidelines for breastfeeding and encourage our mothers to breastfeed for at least the first years of the baby’s life, if possible. We also utilize lactation consultants to assist our mother’s if needed.

Do you over prescribe medications such as antibiotics? We utilize medications only when absolutely necessary. This approach applies not only to antibiotics but also to any medication whether prescription or over the counter. If they are not necessary, or possibly harmful, we readily discourage their use. We spend a lot of time educating our parents on the proper usage of medications and the most appropriate time to administer them.

Can we get in to see the doctor on the same day? Yes, we offer a walk-in hour from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every morning except Sunday (closed) whereby you can show up without an appointment. If you cannot make the walk-in hour all you have to do is call the office (same day) and we’ll place you into the schedule throughout the day to best suit your needs.
